The Asbury Park Press reports that Ralph, a canine member of the Allen County Sheriff's Department has retired after 12 years and seven months out in the field.
The APP.com report hits on many of the highlights of Ralph's career from day one, Feb. 15, 2000, to notes on more recent adventures, such as lending a nose to a U.S. postal inspector and uncovering some $3,000 most likely linked to narcotics a mere 21 days prior to his retirement.
Ralph, a Belgian malinois is now 14 years old and leaves behind him three binders full of the history of his career. His handler, Lt. Terry Furnish is nearing retirement himself and told The Asbury Park Press, that as much as he's loved the K-9 unit, he won't be getting another dog. "I would just compare him to Ralph," Furnish told the APP.
The report also details some of the fanfare from Ralph's last day, which included a cake and abundant jars of Milk-Bones.
